Pramenáč

Pramenáč

Pramenáč

Pramenáč is the highest peak in the area of Dubí and Cínovec. It reaches 909 metres above sea level and lies perhaps two kilometres to the Northeast from Mikulov. Just as with the peaks Na Skále (882 m), Grosser Lugstein (893 m), and Kahleberg (905 m), Pramenáč is composed of a body of so-called Teplice quartz-porphyry (rhyolite), and a larger petrographic species is named for this peak, that is, the Pramenáč-type porphyry. This mineral typically has red coloration and forms prominent rock on Pramenáč.
In clear weather, there is a view from Pramenáč to the valley and to the surrounding mountain massifs. You will see the Great Mountains and the Central Bohemian Uplands, as well as the celebrated mountain Říp. You can reach Pramenáč from the direction of Cínovec or from the other side, from the mountain cottage of Vitiška. A massive wooden cross was mounted on the peak several years ago.
On one of the cliffs near the forest path under Pramenáč a formation can be found that recalls a „rock sun“. This is not a geological point of interest, however, but a disruption of the mineral by a spur of rock during mining for construction purposes.
The ridge of Pramenáč passes through the adit of the same name (also the Vápenice adit), which is 3370 metres long and joins the valley of Horské Bystřice and Divoké Bystřice. This adit is part of the aqueduct which was intended to cover the lack of potable water in Teplice and Trnovany. The aqueduct was planned by the Teplice engineering office and construction company A. Niklas in the years 1925 to 1928. The rough facing of the Pramenáč adit was carried out simultaneously from both sides, both from the west from the former gaming grounds of Vápenice and to the East in the trench of the valley of Liščí Potok over the Dubí train station. According to the logs the work was carried out from 1928 to 1930 by an Italian company. It began serving its purpose at the end of the year 1934.
