The existence of settlement Zinnwald (Zinnwald) is recorded from 14th century, furthermore the first report is documented from 1378. The medieval development was under the influence of mining activities - mining tin ore. It was the mining of ore, which gave the village of paramount importance. On the Czech side Cínovec was affected by the development of mining town of Krupka. Cínovec originally consisted of two distinct parts - Přední Cínovec (Vorder Zinnwald) and Zadní Cínovec (Hinter Zinnwald). Přední Cínovec (in the direction of Krupka) lied roughly on halfway between today Fojtovice and Cínovec. Settlement deteriorated by population movements after World War II and after a border zone was completely demolished in early fifties. Unfortunately one of romantic mountain village irreversibly disappeared including a chapel and school.
Location of Cínovec predetermined to colony rich history and local importance. For comparison - in the thirties of the 19th century Dubí (Eichwald) had 71 houses, 461 inhabitants and was connected to Novosedlice. On the other hand a separate Cínovec had 101 houses and 581 inhabitants in the same period. Statistics from 1880 indicate in Zinnwald - Cínovec 241 houses and 2,263 inhabitants. Cínovec reached the peak of its development around 1930, when it became self-sufficient village, equipped with everything, that life in the mountains required. Ore mines, factory producing torch and hat, 3 saw-mills, dye house, electrification co-operative, doctor, midwife, wholesale timber, the funeral service, 4 forwarding firms, 4 shops, 2 bakers, 2 butchers and many other crafts as well as 9 inns prospered in the village.
Cínovec is located at an altitude of 835 m above sea level and is dominated by cool and windy weather with average summer temperature (July) 12 - 14 ° degrees.
